“ACRC to host event for communication with foreign businesses”

On August 30, Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission and European Chamber of Commerce of Korea will hold on-site business grievance meeting with foreign companies

The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission will listen difficulties of foreign businesses operating in Korea which have contributed to Korea’s economic revitalization through job creation and will seek solution to address them together.

The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC, Chairperson Pak Un Jong) announced that in cooperation with the European Chamber of Commerce of Korea (ECCK), the Commission will hold an on-site business grievance meeting for foreign companies in Korea at 2 pm August 30 at Seoul Square.

Organized for a better communication with foreign businesses in Korea, On-Site Business Grievance Meeting provides the ACRC with an opportunity to listen difficulties facing in permit and license, employment and certification, business operations for helping to build business environment fitting the international standard. The participants share idea on how to solve grievances raised on site.

The upcoming on-site business grievance meeting will be attended by a total of 30 participants including ACRC Chairperson Pak Un Jong, the ECCK President Dimitris Psillakis (CEO of Mercedes Benz Korea) and CEOs of ECCK member companies.

In order to resolve grievances on site, nine relevant institutions including central and local government agencies, guarantee fund agencies and immigration office* will also join the meeting.

At first session of the meeting, “Conversation With ACRC Chairperson Pak Un Jong”, Chairperson Pak and foreign business leaders will have time to talk about foreign businesses’ major concerns and interests including Korea’s anti-corruption policies and cases of resolved business grievances.

At the following Q&A session, participating foreign businessmen will ask questions and get answers by competent institutions in charge of policies and projects related to their questions.

The ACRC will receive complaints raised at the meeting on site. As for policy suggestions, the Commission will discuss them with the participants and consult with the competent authorities to find fundamental solutions.

Chairperson Pak Un Jong said, “The ACRC has held business grievance hearing of Korean companies such as SMEs and micro businesses. The upcoming meeting is the first of its kind to listen foreign companies’ grievances. Addressing foreign companies’ grievances will not just increase investment in Korea but also enhance Korea’s image as a transparent nation in the international community.”

She added that along with such efforts to resolve grievances, the ACRC will promote its anti-corruption efforts to foreign businesses in Korea, and the ACRC, as Korea’s national anti-corruption and ombudsman agency, will play a leading role in enhancing Korea’s global competitiveness.
