The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) organized a training course designed to help build anti-corruption capacity of public officials from around the world from May 13th for 10 days.

The ACRC has operated the ACRC Training Course for International Anti-Corruption Practitioners every year since 2013 for public officials from anti-corruption agencies around the world. This year, at the 7th training, 16 officials from 15 countries, including Armenia, Chile, Egypt, South Africa and Singapore, were selected out of 51 applicants in 26 countries.

The training course aimed to improve practical knowledge and skills needed to develop and implement anti-corruption policies. The training program includes lectures on Korea’s major anti-corruption measures, which have won international recognition, such as the Integrity Assessment, Anti-Corruption Initiative Assessment, Corruption Risk Assessment, and protection of whistleblowers.

This year the ACRC invited international experts to its training course to increase the learners’ understanding about the latest international efforts and trends in the anti-corruption field.

Ho Wai-chi, Director of Community Relations of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) Hong Kong, is expected to share Hong Kong's strategies and efforts to promote participation of citizens and youth in fighting corruption.

Anga R. Timilsina, Global Programme Advisor on Anti-corruption of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Francesco Checchi, Anti-Corruption Adviser of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), gave a lecture on "anti-corruption goal in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)" and "review of implementation of UNCAC" respectively.

At the welcoming ceremony of the training course, held at the Anti-Corruption Training Institute (ACTI) of the ACRC in Cheongju on May 14, Executive Director Kim Won-young of the ACTI noted that under the UNCAC, the G20 Anti-Corruption Action Plan and SDGs, a number of countries have recently been stepping up efforts to share knowledge and experience in preventing and combating corruption.

Mr. Kim said, “In response to such global efforts, the ACRC will continue to help other countries to enhance their anti-corruption capacities so that we can achieve sustainable development together.”
