ACRC hosted an anti-corruption training workshop for the Iraqi Commission of Integrity

A delegation from the Iraqi anti-corruption body visited Korea to attend the anti-corruption training workshop to be held for four days from June 26th.

The training workshop was organized by the Anti-Corruption Training Institute of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) of Korea in Sejong and Cheongju for twelve officials from the Commission of Integrity (COI) of Iraq, the first Arab country which signed a memorandum of understanding on anti-corruption cooperation with Korea.

The tailor-made training program will cover Korea’s major anti-corruption measures, including the Anti-Corruption Initiative Assessment, Integrity Assessment, and Corruption Risk Assessment.

The Iraqi officials were also able to participate in various interactive, thought-provoking activities designed to help enhance their anti-corruption capacities, including small group discussion about ethical dilemmas that public officials may face in the workplace and an amusing exercise of making a “fan of integrity”.

The training workshop was planned under the memorandum of understanding, which was concluded between the ACRC and the COI in April 2018, the first of its kind in Arab that the ACRC has ever signed.

Under the bilateral MoU, the two anti-corruption bodies agreed to share and exchange policies, experiences and good practices in the area of the prevention and eradication of corruption.

As part of efforts to follow up the MoU, the representatives from the ACRC also visited Baghdad in early July to present the Korean government’s anti-corruption policies at the reconstruction seminar to take place in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and Iraq.

Recently, the Iraqi government is focusing on economic development and anti-corruption reform as two top priorities, showing great interest in Korea’s experiences in preventing and fighting against corruption.

At the welcoming event on June 26th, Pak Un Jong, Chairperson of the ACRC, stressed the need to bolster bilateral cooperation to fight corruption.

“The ACRC will make every effort to help enhance the anti-corruption capacities of Iraqi officials,” the Chairperson said.
